The Sword of Kaigen by M. L. Wang
Normally I get impatient with long books, but The Sword of Kaigen was an exception. I enjoyed the characters, their story, and the pacing from beginning to end.

I will never look at a roadrunner the same!
Catching up on the books I’ve missed in the Elemental Masters series. I really like this world. This entry could have been a little shorter but still thoroughly enjoyable.
Reading this book just made me …

Normally I notice a book’s language if it’s bad. The language in The River Has Roots jumped out at me because it was good! Amal El-Mohtar has a wonderfully lyrical voice. The River Has Roots was luxurious and a great pleasure to read. 4 stars and recommended!

Queen Demon is the second book in Martha Well’s The Rising World series. I really enjoyed the first book, Witch King, which I read in July 2024. Queen Demon starts where Witch King left off and I struggled to remember all the backstory and characters. It made the first third of the book …

The story was interesting; I wanted to know the ending. For me, …

Reading used to be my go-to activity when I had nothing else to do. With social media, on-demand TV, and the internet it’s harder to have nothing to do. I fell out of the habit of reading. Last year I made an effort to get back into regular reading.
It’s been wonderful. Science fiction/fantasy is much richer than I remember …

Set in London, it tells the tale of the twelve gods of Mount Olympus living in a rundown flat as their powers wane.

Gods Behaving Badly was a tasty, fast snack. I read it in a single sitting and it hit the spot. No new story takes for me (though it might have had in …

What Moves the Dead, by T. Kingfisher (Ursula Vernon), is a retelling of Edgar Allan Poe’s classic horror, The Fall of the House of Usher. There’s an added character or two, an explanation for Roderick and Madeline’s demise, and a few genuinely creepy scenes involving hares and mushrooms.
The beginning was the fun, the middle a bit slow, …
