The Gates of Sleep by Mercedes Lackey
I’ve very much enjoyed the Elemental Masters series by Mercedes Lackey. So far I’ve read them as I’ve found them and thought it was time to fill in the blanks of books I’ve missed. The Gates of Sleep only got a 3.75 because the setup took too long. Once it got going it was a great read.
The Bone Orchard by Sara A. Mueller
I liked the world building and magic system in The Bone Orchard, especially since the details are different from other stories using similar tropes. As the deeper significance of the boneghasts was revealed I felt like I was missing some deeper meaning. Can’t say whether or not that’s the fault of Mueller or my inability to remember details. The book felt a little long for the story. Though an uneven read I ultimately enjoyed it.
